An Incomplete List of Things I’m Grateful For.

I’m beyond thankful for the sound of my children’s feet on the hard wood floor and their laugh as they chase each other around our home. I’m thankful for the sun on my skin when the day is cool and the smell of clean laundry. I’m thankful for the kindness of the cashiers at Trader Joes who always ask how I’m doing and how my day has been. I’m thankful for the smell of the first rain and sporadic trips down to the desert. I’m thankful for my husband’s rationality and unconditional love.

I’m thankful for holidays spent with the ones I adore, for memories of the ones I’ve lost and for the sleepy eyes on Christmas morning. I’m thankful for the special occasions where we toast with fancy champagne and the ordinary days where the neighbors greet us as we play outside. I’m thankful for the bond between my boys and fresh flowers by the window.

I’m thankful for the winter cotton candy skies, the sound of the waves crashing on the shore and for clean sheets (nothing better!). I’m thankful for vulnerability and friends who check in. I’m thankful for the health of my loved ones.

I’m thankful for long walks, long drives and teaching my kids as often as I can. I’m thankful for homecooked meals and deserts that include chocolate. I’m thankful for the care team that loved Frank. I’m thankful for beautiful words, both written and spoken and I’m thankful for my kid’s friends who love them fiercely.

I’m thankful for the mess. I’m thankful for the noise and the chaos. I’m thankful that I feel things tenfold and for a blazing hot shower. I’m thankful for people who stand up for things that are right. I’m thankful for good moods and when everyone in my family is happy at the same time. I’m thankful for Maria.

I’m forever thankful for my parents and the life they provided for me. I’m thankful I’m a mother. I’m thankful that I get to continue to celebrate my birthday and for the perfectly placed swear. I’m thankful for inside jokes and shared laugh. I’m thankful for the good… and that bad. Because the bad makes the good that much better.

I’m thankful that there are at least a thousand more things I could add to this list.
