Grief Books + TV Episodes for Littles
Hi Everyone! Maria here. As many of you know, I’ve been on a bit of a journey with helping my 2.5 year old son cope with the loss of his sweet Mimi. I honestly did not think at this age he would be thinking about it as much as he does, but at the same time I try and look at how beautiful it is that my mother made such an impression on his life. Even when she could not speak to him - he could still feel her love, and that makes my heart happy (and break a little too).
As I always do, I’ve polled all my friends, mom groups, etc. asking for resources to help me figure this out (as one without their mama has to do…) and I have been given such an amazing list of resources that I wanted to share in case anyone is looking for a list.
I find that many of the books are a bit too abstract for my Liam, so what has been best for us so far is When Dinosaurs Die (By the author and illustrator of Aurthur). It is EXTREMELY straight forward, and a bit long, but it is what we need for him. I also really enjoy God Gave Us Heaven, because in our house we have told Liam that his Mimi is “flying in the sky” in Heaven.
I think the best advice I’ve received on my search is that it’s most important to take the time think about what you believe and how you want to remember your loved one first. That will influence the books, videos, stories you will share with your littles. It sounds so simple, but sometimes these simple answers are in our face and we don’t see them! Trust your gut. You know what is right for your child and your family. Sending you love on your grief journey - especially navigating it alongside your child - I know it is not easy. And if there is an awesome book or resource I’ve missed, please comment below or send us an e-mail so we can share it with our Remember Me fam.

I also love the instagram account @biglittlefeelings. They have a highlight reel on their page about death. Hope this helps you on your way. Sending love.
