Episode Recap: Adele (Lauren Miller Rogen)

We are so excited to share this special episode with our small but mighty community. Lauren Miller Rogen, co-founder of HFC (Hilarity for Charity) openly discusses loosing her sweet mama, Adele in Episode 15. Through her candid charm and easy-going vibe, Laurens vulnerability is tangible and makes for a wonderful conversation about something that isn’t so damn wonderful. Lauren’s titles range from comedian, writer, filmmaker, wife… but the one we resonate most with is “Alzheimer/Dementia advocate,” and obviously … now a friend of Remember Me!

Lauren begins her journey (as all our guests do) answering the question … “when did you first realize something was wrong with your mom?” and from there, it’s like 3 girlfriends chatting over coffee (or tequila). There was such a sense of “oh my … yes! We know EXACTLY what you mean…” and “yep, totally.” Lauren continued to explain the diagnosis process, how her family processed it and what it felt like to loose Adele slowly and without guidance.

Adele was someone who we would want to live next door too. She was a 1st grade teacher, she was kind and we both know she would be so damn proud of Lauren. Describing her as a do-er, Lauren eloquently portrayed her mother as someone who didn’t “take things sitting down” - thats where Lauren got it, you guys! She explained to us that she was angry watching Adele deteriorate, she was angry that no other 20-somethings could empathize with what she was going through…. out of that anger and isolation HFC was born.

We are so fortunate to have spent the evening chatting with Lauren and learning all about Adele. We are even more fortunate to highlight such a wonderful organization and where it came from. Caregiving grants, respite care, brain tips… HFC has it all. And it was founded on a need … and, of course… love. That sweet, sweet love.

Our Blog, 5 HFC Resources You Should Check Out Now is a great place to start.

Thank you Lauren, Seth and the team behind them. We are fortunate to be in this club with people like you.
